About the Image
This photo is part of a decades long series documenting the changes in Chicago’s urban landscape. My hope is to preserve the memory of what was changing or disappearing.
This old piano was sitting out on the sidewalk in front of a building on Maxwell Street in Chicago. This was the site of the Maxwell Street Market that had been closed because of the expansion o the University of Illinois Chicago. The piano came out of a building on the corner of Maxwell and Union that ha been destroyed by neglect and eventually fire.
